Nailab partnered with the African Union Development Agency and SIFA-GIZ in 2020 to conduct a desk study examining existing Recognized Prior Learning (RPL) policies and digital platforms that can be used for RPL vetting and facilitating job linkages across Africa.

By mapping out existing digital platforms that can be adopted for RPL, we provided a comprehensive blueprint for enhancing the recognition of informal skills and creating smoother pathways to employment across Africa.

Our Roles:

  • Desktop research: Conducted a thorough analysis to identify digital platforms in Africa that could be adopted to streamline the RPL process and support workforce development.
  • Stakeholder research surveys: Engaged key regional stakeholders to understand the challenges of hiring informal skilled labor and explored how digital platforms can help address these issues effectively.

This study not only informs policy formulation but also contributes to shaping a more inclusive and efficient workforce ecosystem in Africa.

Impact

  • The study provided a critical foundation for improving the recognition of informal skills across Africa enabling better employment opportunities for millions of informally trained workers across the continent..
